About these prints
Giclée prints of Amanda’s original gouache paintings, made in-house at the gallery in Hahndorf.
- What giclée means. A giclée (pronounced zhee-clay) is a fine art print: a professional printer lays down microscopic drops of pigment ink on archival paper, from an image colour-matched to the original. It’s a different thing from a poster or photo print, which uses four dye-based inks on coated paper. The colour is truer, and it lasts.
- True to the original. Each painting is scanned at high resolution, at least 300 dots per inch at print size, and carefully colour-matched before any print is made.
- Ten pigment inks. Printed on an Epson SureColor P906 with Epson UltraChrome Pro10 pigment inks, ten colours rather than four, chosen for their colour range and lightfastness. Displayed out of direct sunlight, a print should keep its colour for decades.
- A white border. A5, A4 and A2 prints have a white border of at least 3, 4 and 6 mm. 5 × 7 in prints show the whole painting, with white strips of about 10 mm top and bottom, and they can stand on a desk or windowsill as they are. Where a painting’s proportions differ from the paper’s, the border is wider on two sides.
- Museum-quality cotton paper. 100% cotton, acid-free, lignin-free and chlorine-free, so it resists yellowing. We choose between a smooth bright-white paper and a textured watercolour paper to suit each painting. Every print is hand-signed by Amanda and part of an open edition.
How your print arrives
5 × 7 in, A5 and A4 prints are sent flat, on an archival backing board in a clear, acid-free sleeve. Both are safe for long-term storage, and the board is recyclable. A2 prints are sent rolled in a tube. If your order includes an A2, any smaller prints are rolled into the same tube so everything arrives together.
Framing
Prints are unframed and unmounted. All four sizes fit standard ready-made frames, or a framer can make one to suit. For the best protection against fading, choose UV-protective glass and an acid-free backing board.
Caring for your print
- Handle it by the edges with clean, dry hands, as the matt surface marks easily.
- Until framing, keep it flat and away from light, dust and damp. For 5 × 7 in, A5 and A4 prints sent flat, the sleeve and board are a good place to store it.
- Let an A2 print, or any smaller print that came in its tube, rest flat after unrolling, or ask your framer to help.
- Hang it out of direct sunlight and away from damp rooms such as bathrooms.
